the hundred push ups training program

Perfect Push Up

You've read through the program and studied each week carefully. You may just be thinking of taking the challenge or you may already be on the road to a fitter, stronger and healthier you. You may also have pondered the origins of the one hundred push ups plan. If so, this page is for you.

I first read about a similar exercise plan on a friend-in-the-UK's blog in June 2007. At the time I was looking for a simple strength program to compliment a fall marathon schedule I was following. I painstakingly stuck to the plan, and surprised myself when I was able to complete "the magic hundred" at the end of the 7th week; yes, I had to repeat one of the weeks mid-way through the plan.

Sadly I promptly slipped in to running only mode and soon lost most of my hard earned strength. However, looking back, I was impressed with the simplicity of the plan, the progressive nature of the workouts and of course the end result of being able to do one hundred consecutive push ups.

Several months later I mentioned the six-week program on a personal blog after deciding to test myself and take the challenge again. Unfortunately, second time around my enthusiasm for the program wasn't quite the same and not surprisingly I ended up cutting the program short. Needless to say the blog posts trailed off to nothing too.

I guess the appeal of doing push ups is quite a strong one. As the weeks ticked by, I received numerous emails and comments about doing push ups and at this point decided to create an all-new hundred push ups web site of my own. I launched the site in June 2008, and to be honest have been staggered by the response from the online community. In fact, many of the emails I've received from "the challengers" have been very touching and quite inspirational.

It really is amazing how grateful people are for having a solid workout plan to follow, and it's fantastic to have so many people on board with the notion of challenging themselves and doing something positive to be a stronger, fitter and healthier person.

Good luck and happy push ups!
